China has cemented its leading position in the medal tally on the third day of the Athens Olympic Games, by harvesting two more gold medals from marksman Zhu Qinan and female weightlifter Chen Yanqing.
Olympic debutant Zhu Qinan repeated the double-gold momentum of China's shooters on the opening day.
The 19-year-old sharpshooter claimed the title of the men's 10m air rifle and shocked the world by setting the new World and Olympic Record. His compatriot Li Jie grabbed the silver.
And China's weightlifters achieved their first gold medal in the ongoing Olympic Games after 25-year-old strongwoman Chen Yanqing won the title of the women's 58kg class. The highly-confident native of east China's Jiangsu province also broke the Olympic Record.
On the third day competition, China's women's volleyball team enjoyed a comfortable victory by routing their second group rivals Dominica. Wednesday's matchup with Cuba is the real challenge for the reigning world champions without star spiker Zhao Ruirui.
Monday China will go all out to start the quest for medals in swimming, foil and diving events.
Up to 11 p.m. Beijing time, China heads the medal table with seven golds, three silvers and one bronze.
