Top-ranked Chinese paddler Zhang Yining has thrashed North Korea's Kim Hyang Mi 4-0 to take the women's table tennis singles gold medal at the Athens Olympics.

The scores were 11-8, 11-7, 11-2 and 11-2.

It is China's 100th gold medal in the Summer Olympics since China made its debut in the 1984 Los Angeles Games, and also the 20th gold medal for China in Athens.

Li Jia Wei of Singapore won the bronze.
